The purpose of this article is to inform the public as to what kind of service you might expect from the Delray Beach, Florida, Police Department.
In the summer of 1998 I moved to Delray Beach and took up temporary residence in a condominium behind the Marriot Hotel. The second night there I was burglarized by an excon named Brain Levy. Go to the Florida Department of Corrections Website and you can see this guy's picture and record. This guy stole my wallet, my wife's camera and purse, her green card, and our passports. This guy Levy wrote checks to himself and forged my name. I had already closed the account so Levy struck out. I also beat this crook out of charging anything to my credit cards. The police did find my wife's camera in a local pawn shop. She had to pay $35.00 to the pawn broker to get her camera back. We recovered nothing else from this break-in.
A Detective was charged with handling this case. He said they would look for Levy. I guess he didn't look too hard as Levy was in custody on October 14, 1998 or 1999 at the Sheriff's department. I also think he spent some time in jail. I wonder why Levy was not arrested for robbing me while he was readily available. Over the years I tried to follow up on the case against Levy. The last time I checked the Delray P.D. could find no record of the case. I guess my wife and I just imagined this robbery.
Levy was later arrested, tried, and convicted in Volusia County, Florida. They play by different rules than Palm Beach County. Levy served two and one-half years in prison for a crime in this county. When he was released did Delray go after Levy, did they prompt the state's attorney to go after Levy, of course not.
Three years later I gave Blue Max Motorcars my Mercedes to sell on consignment. John Miu sold my car for 5,000 dollars and kept the money. To sell my car he forged my name twice and got a new title in his name. I found this out through a little detecting on my part. After my first experience with the Delray Beach P.D. I did not expect much out of them. I also had a great deal of help from the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles and my insurance company in investigating this crime. The police tell me they knew about the reputation of Blue Max Motorcars and that they would handle this matter. I provided the Delray Beach Police Department with all the necessary documents needed to go after this guy. I also had the support of the Department of Motor Vehicles and my insurance company
My best sources tell me once again the Delray Beach Police Department did nothing.
Three to four weeks prior to 9/11 I saw three of the terrorists working out in my gym on Atlantic Avenue. I can see why they chose to live in Delray Beach. Should you decide to move here make sure you know how to protect yourself as you cannot depend on the Delray Beach Police Department? I imagine criminals already know this is one of the better places to hideout in America.
