Bisexual Dating in the Limelight

What do bisexuals think when bisexual dating is made into a game show and aired on TV? Is it considered a good thing, creating a positive aspect that at least it is being acknowledged and their sexuality is being taken somewhat seriously? Or are they mad and do they think that such shows are simply a mockery of the bisexual dating world and should not be aired or should be taken about in a different manner? The truth is some bisexuals are for these types of shows that are now popping up on MTV and other stations and some are against. Other's simple do not care one way or the other.

One such show that recently aired on MTV was "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila." where 16 mend and get this women worked at winning the affections of the Myspace star and import car model. The show drew a lot of ratings and also a lot of controversy from fanatical Christian sects that wanted the portrait of bisexual dating to be banned from the TV screen. Well that did not happen as everyone is used to that type of thing happening any time anything unconventional pops up in popular media.

"Double Shot At Love" is now the newest installment in MTV's bisexual dating show line up. This is mostly due to the mass popularity of the "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila." show that had some of the best ratings on cable TV for its running. This show will be about two bisexual twins both looking for either a man or woman for them both. These types of shows, although definitely shown to get a young adult audience obsessed with sex and dating can have their beneficial effects towards.

For teens that are struggling with their sexuality this can show them that what they think is not only okay, it is accepted, it is hot and trendy, and it is on TV. This can be important for many young adults and teens that feel uncomfortable and insecure about their sexual orientation. It may give them just the confidence boost they need to come out of the closet, and begin to start their bisexual dating experience as any young adult should be able to do.

Shows like this can do some things to hurt bisexual dating too, by making it seem like an insincere fad, that it is not about real dating and love but about making money and selling a product. Some people can see past this into the all for fun aspect but many bisexuals feel that a show like this actually hurts them and their integrity in the long run. In either case, the huge ratings these shows brought in will almost guarantee that there are more like it to follow, so both sides of the controversy will simply have to adjust and get used to it. Maybe someday all dating shows will show the full spectrum of people's vast sexualities and have bisexual dating a part of that, for now we have MTV.
