Teen Slang and IM Codes

Teen slang and IM codes seem like a foreign language to most parents. Teen trends change fast and that makes it harder for parents to keep pace as well. Instant messaging is as common as e-mail among youthful Internet users and teens are almost twice as likely to use it as adults, according to Teenage Life Online. With teen slang of their own and IM codes in constant, daily use, it's easier than ever for teens to communicate and harder for parents to understand them.

If you want to know what the slang words teens are using mean you can go to a site called urbandictionary.com. Don't be afraid to check your teen's social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook. Find out below some of the teen slang and IM abbreviations that should make parents wiser:

NSFP - not Safe For Parents.

BOOTY CALL - call someone on the phone and arrange a sexual liaison, usually late night.

BOOTYLICIOUS - sexually attractive, looking very attractive with plenty of "booty."

CHILLAXIN - hanging out (chillin) and relaxing!

DILLIO - what's the deal or what’s up?

EMO - someone is acting in a suicidal or depressed way.

FO SHO - for sure, absolutely.

FO REAL - yes, that is very true.

FO RIZEAL - for real

FOO - 1. a friend. 2. An insulting name for someone.

HOOCHIE - a female who is promiscuous by nature.

HOOCHIE MAMA - more than just a hoochie.

MY BAD - a phrase said to admit guilt in a situation.

NEWBIE - someone who is new to a particular activity, specifically a game, concept or forum.

WHAZUP? - derived from "what's up?"

AAS - Alive and smiling

AFK - Away From Keyboard

ASAP - As Soon As Possible

ASL - What's your Age, Sex and Location?

BBL8R - Be Back later

B/C - because

BF - Boyfriend

BFF - Best Friend Forever

BRB - Be Right Back
