Psychology of Smile Improvement

Many adults are embarrassed by their smile. The psychological ramifications limit them in numerous ways Hemingway, in A Moveable Feast, referred to a friend with unsightly teeth as having a "smile that he held tightly not to show his bad teeth." More than a few people hide their teeth when they are not pleased with them.

The link at the bottom of the article shows photos of people who did not have a good self image because or how the felt about their smiles. Notice the change after they had cosmetic dentistry to improve their smiles. In particular, notice the eyes. As a "window to the soul", they reflect the inner feelings of each of these people.

The visual evidence seems to indicate a pronounced increase in self-confidence for these people. Personal comments from these people indicate the procedure can be life changing because of the change in their outlook.

Improvements in relationships, advancement in employment circles and a general enhancement of their self-image are among the comments they volunteer.

Typical comments "I used to be self-conscious about my crooked teeth, but with my new veneers I have the confidence of ten people and take every opportunity to smile and show them off!"

"I had always been self conscious of my teeth and made an effort not to show them. I felt as though I could never fully express the joy that was within me because of my imperfect smile."

"I used to be self-conscious about my crooked teeth, but with my new veneers I have the confidence of ten people and take every opportunity to smile and show them off! Before now, people frequently told me I had beautiful eyes, but I don't ever recall being complimented about my smile. Now, people remark about my smile all the time - even people I've met for the first time or in passing."
