Lets Try Out Google Trends

It is my first time ever to even see this idea in action. And on my first run through there were some keywords that were very unexpected.

Let me give you a brief idea of what Google Trends is. I ran into in on accident, but it seems helpful - especially for blog traffic. It is basically a Google search engine graphical user interface (GUI) with the latest search trends listed below it. Quite simple. There is a "More Hot Trends" button on the bottom of the list that lets you view up to the latest 100 trends and select specific dates as well.

The trends are analyzed in a specific fashion. Lets say that the most popular keyword for the day from 12:00pm-6:00pm was "football" with 1 millions total searches at a steady search rate throughout the day. I have deduced, according to the data that Google Trends have provided, that the "spicy" or "volcanic" keywords are not the keywords that have been searched steadily throughout the day, but fall closer to the "searches/time" tree. Now, I could be completely mistaken, but it seems to be a ratio of how many searches were conducted over a certain period of time. If anyone knows any further information - please feel free. Until then I will continue to research how Google ranks a keyword "on fire" or "medium".

In general this tool is particularly useful for bloggers in need of good topics to write about. Blogger's block? Go to Google Trends and check out some of the latest trends of the day to find a topic. The reason this will give you more traffic is quite simple. These are the most search keywords for that specific day. It is only logical to assume that writing a blog entry based on one of the most search keywords of the day will return more search engine hits which equal traffic. The catch is that usually when a keyword is popular there are many other sites who have this keyword also. The density of the keyword falls basically. So in choosing an interesting topic, go for something unique. As I was preparing this post, I could not help but notice the #35 most searched keyword for today, "strawberry shortcake." Number 35?! Really??

Is Google infallible?
